Enabling Sustainable Natural Resource Management Under a Changing Climate

Enabling Sustainable Natural Resource Management Under a Changing Climate

Aim: Through co-productive action-research, develop and apply practical guidance for climate change adaptation pathways planning and implementation in natural resource management (NRM).

Outcome: Started in 2017, this project involved working with different Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) on their adaptation planning. The project has supported Corangamite CMA (CCMA), Glenelg-Hopkins CMA, Port-Philip Westernport CMA, West and East Gippsland CMAs, and the Goulburn Broken CMA (GBCMA). It helped inform the Climate Ready NRM Planning Portal.

This work draws on some initial research conducted through the Southern Slopes Climate Change Adaptation Research Partnership (SCARP) – a consortium of RMIT University, University of Tasmania, Monash University, DPI Victoria, DELWP Victoria, DPIPWE Tasmania, University of Technology Sydney, and the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW.

SCARP produced the Adaptation Pathways Playbook.

Subsequent research built on that initial work, working with communities and practitioners in the Strathbogie Ranges in the GBCMA (Bogies and Beyond) and the Ramsar-listed Western District Lakes in CCMA. This second round of work applied and extended the Playbook to Explore Adaptation Pathways Planning through an NRM lens.
